Continent 8 Technologies is sponsoring the Charitable, Cultural and Social Enterprise Award at this year’s Isle of Man Newspapers’ Awards for Excellence. CEO Michael Tobin is impressed by the island’s breadth and diversity of charities and cultural event.

‘There is fantastic work being undertaken on the island for a wide range of charities and organisations. There are around 900 charities registered here and the people of the Isle of Man are well known for their generosity. Continent 8 is delighted to be sponsoring an award which recognises and celebrates the contribution these fantastic organisations and people make to our Island. When it comes to cultural and social enterprise, the award also recognises the diversity of cultural and social engagement, including events such as the TT, the Royal Show, Castle Rushen Unlocked and last year’s award winner, the Peel Traditional Boat Weekend, now taking place on the island. There are a very broad variety of events for a small community and all of them, ultimately, bring prosperity to the island and reflect the Isle of Man very well to a wider audience. The island’s charitable, cultural and social enterprises effectively bridge communities – something we also achieve in a different way, through our technological infrastructure and expertise,’ commented Michael.

Incorporated in the Isle of Man in 2006, Continent 8 is a truly global operation with datacentre locations in Montreal, London, Paris, Dublin, Malta, Guernsey, Gibraltar, Singapore and New Jersey. Continent 8 has been providing complex, reliable and innovative connectivity and hosting services to customers in highly regulated markets for the past sixteen years.

During the last 12 months, Continent 8 undertook a major expansion on the island, both in terms of physical infrastructure and an increase in staffing numbers, and the company is continuing to invest in the Isle of Man with its aim being to promote the island globally and bring new business to the Island.

Continent 8 is an award-winner in its own right, with a background as a service provider in the e-gaming sector, one of the most demanding in terms of quality and resilience. The company has won Data Centre of the Year for the last five years in a row at the e-Gaming Review B2B Awards.

Operating a privately owned and managed data network connecting all of the company’s data centres, Continent 8 is able to provide customers with end to end service level from one single provider, complemented by a range of value added services.

The company has been providing support to the island’s business community in a number of ways for over 8 years now; one being its involvement with entrepreneur events which have been successful in attracting entrepreneurs to relocate to the Isle of Man and this year they ran the highly successful Isle of Man Entrepreneur Challenge.

‘Last year we also began our sponsorship of the Awards for Excellence which gave me the opportunity to attend the Awards Night for the first time,’ said Mr Tobin. He went on: ‘I was very impressed with the evening, which captivates what is really taking place on the Isle of Man, showcasing the diversity of the island and promoting our real sense of community.’
